Solanco, like many youth football and cheerleading associations relies on volunteers who donate time and experience to work with our kids, and we encourage all parents to get involved in coaching or other volunteer opportunities. Without volunteers, our organization cannot succeed in providing a great experience for our kids. Please contact any member of the board at any time to see about volunteer opportunities.

The fall tackle practice season starts early August.
Games will start Labor Day weekend.
Practices for the fall football season start in August. Regular season games run until the end of October.
Solanco MFA is a member of the Red Rose Football League, who sets the ages and other parameters of the league. In 2023, the league agreed to the below ages.
All players must be between the ages of 7 and 12 as of June 1st 2022, before the fall season.
There is not a weight limit for each level, however, the league has what is known as the "striper" rule. This means that players over a certain weight limit, set for each level, must wear a clearly visible stripe on their helmet. These players are usually referred to as "stripers." These players must play an interior lineman position on both offense and defense in a three-point stance. "Stripers" on defense cannot line up outside the offensive tackles. "Stripers" also cannot be on kick-off nor kick-return teams.

Sucking the fun out of youth sports.
Why do adults get so wrapped up in the outcome of youth sporting events? In this thoughtful and funny talk, Mike looks at common parent and coach behavior at youth sporting events, and offers a new perspective for putting the fun back into sports for kids.
Changing the game in youth sports.
O'Sullivan remembers when youth sports was about children competing with other children instead of adults competing with each other through their kids.
Youth sports as a development zone.
Youth sports is dominated by a win-at-all-cost mentality that leads to undesired and sometimes tragic results. Jim Thompson articulates a powerful competing vision powered by a growing movement to make youth sports a "Development Zone" to develop Better Athletes, Better People, which, with 40 million youth playing sports, will have far-reaching positive impacts on our country
